Why I do what I do

I love knowing why people do what they do.  Here’s my “why”:

I love to sew.

I come from a long line of creative women.  My mother, grandmothers and great grandmothers loved to cook, to sew, to reuse (way before it was cool and responsible to recycle), to quilt.  I regret that I didn’t learn from Grandma E. when I had the chance.  Oh, she tried, but I really didn’t listen or watch or learn much.  I didn’t do too well in home ec either.  That’s not Mrs. L’s fault.  Sewing just wasn’t my thing.  Then, in college, I needed a poodle skirt.  My mom told me to make my own.  So I did, using her little Singer Featherweight.

From that time one, I dabbled.  I’ve hemmed pants, I made curtains and pillows, I’ve sewn up purses.  I’ve even figured out how to sew clothes that flatter me and rival anything you could buy at high-end boutiques.

Then I had children…

When my daughter was born, I made her first Halloween costume (a little orange sleep sack and orange cap).  Pumpkins are perfect when you’re one week old.

My mom and I made the bedding and curtains for her room, nightgowns, and Easter dresses.  When my son came along a few years later, I began tackling jon jons.  I learned to applique and I got a much nicer, newer sewing machine.  I began creating garments as gifts for friends.  Then friends began asking to purchase jon jons and jumpers.

When I needed a name for my business, I knew I wanted something that expressed the idea that I create garments customized completely for each little one.  I believe that each child has their own God-given special personality.  I hope to offer you the garment that perfectly captures your child’s sweet spirit.  So, PersonaliTy Children’s Clothes was born.

I love that I can offer customers exactly what I want when shopping for my own children–quality products, completely customized and well made.  Thanks for taking the time to shop with me.
