Hey Y'all! I'm Salinda. Welcome to my little piece of the South. I'm a sewing instructor and the seamstress behind PersonaliTy Children's Clothes. I'm crazy in love with my hubby and Momma to 2 spunky swimmers! I'm addicted to Sonic Cokes, my New Orleans Saints, and Jesus!

One of these is not like the other…

swimming summer league, swimming Damon McCoy, VBS, Cub-Scout traveling camp, road trip #1, church camp, golf camp, Louisiana State Long Course championships, trips to the grandparents, road trip #2, Cub Scout twi-light camp, water park, school uniform shopping…  One of these is not like the other!  Humph!

School starts in 11 days.  11 days!!  I would ask where our summer has gone, but I think that list says it all!

Road Trip: Dallas Zoo, Dallas, TX

On another really hot Friday, we loaded up for another road trip.  Actually, this one was an overnight trip.

We scored a really cheap 4-star hotel room and headed to Dallas on a Thursday night.  After dinner and shopping at IKEA, we camped out in the hotel and rested up for our hot, hot, hot day at the zoo.

If you go:

  • Ride the monorail early!  There are lots of animals you can see only from the monorail. 100_2463

  • Eat at the cafe in the African Savannah (with the lions!). 100_2474
  • Scope out the gorillas from the air-conditioned observation/education center.100_2453

  • Feed the giraffes!  The observation deck is at eye level with these beauties!100_2483
  • Walk through the aviary!  The birds were up close and personal, building nests and calling out.

  • Bring your own drinks.  (We saw lots of parents with wagons, waterbottles, and picnic spots.  You might call to double check the rules, but it looks like this was allowed.)

Blueberry Picking

Picking blueberries at Shuqulak Farms

These 3 picked 2 gallons of blueberries in less than 20 minutes!  (I think they ate a lot too!)  That’s a whole lot of blueberries at our house!  Big, juicy, sweet blueberries.

We love visiting Shuqulak Farms every summer to pick our own blueberries.  Their blueberries are so sweet and huge!  Plus, they give us yummy blueberry-lemonade popsicles at the end of our visit.

So…what did I do with all those blueberries?

Well, a few went into a cobbler for dinner that night.  One gallon went into the freezer.  The rest were cooked up into blueberry pie filling.

Just a word of warning, if you can pie filling, you’ll need Clear Jel.  I ordered mine from here.

Keepin’ On

Matthew 7:7

During his sermon series based on The Sermon on the Mount, Bro. Chuck said something that has stuck with me.  In fact, during the sermon, I knew that this would become a reminder hung in our home.

I learned Matthew 7:7 as “Ask and it will be given unto you, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened unto you.”  Bro. Chuck said that the more accurate translation of Matthew 7:7 is “Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking…”.

Wow!  As I’m praying for friends and family facing situations that seem so difficult and hard to understand, this new perspective on Matthew 7:7 inspires me to keep praying, to keep asking, and to continue this asking and praying with the faith that God is bigger than this world.
